Beech Hall Health and Wellbeing Centre Print

Mastercraft Construction were awarded the contract for constructing the concrete frame of the new Health & Wellbeing Centre, Andersonstown Road, Belfast. Works included constructing all the concrete elements of the building and also the placing of concrete and steel reinforcement. The tight 38 week programme which ran from March to December 2009 was achieved successfully.

The substructure required a comprehensive waterproofing package utilising a wide range of Fosroc products. For the liftshafts and staircore walls, climbing formwork was used comprising of Trio panels and CBC Platforms. The perimeter walls were constructed using Peri FB 180 climbing platforms with Peri Trio panels forming the shutters for the walls.

The site team liaised with the engineers to amend the design of the reinforcement in the upstands and downstands to allow them to be poured as walls. This meant that when the walls were poured they were 1000mm above the decks thus providing a safe area to work without the necessity for extra edge protection. This was achieved by placing a starter pack to tie in with the floor slab. The floor slabs and down stand beams were constructed using Alshor and aluminium beams and Airodek prop and panels.
