ASDA way of workingMastercraft have recently been awarded contracts undertaking work on stores for the high profile retail chain “Asda”. Work on Asda stores must promote the “Asda way of working” to encourage safe working practices for all operatives on site. Examples of these contracts are the Fit Out of the new Superstore at Redlands Road, Larne and the, General Builder’s Work and Shopfitting of the store at the Remodelled Westwood Centre, Belfast. Work has been carried out in conjunction with Principal Contractors Gilbert-Ash and H & J Martin respectively. Mastercraft are hopeful that this association with Asda will continue into the future.

Remodel Asda Westwood

Mastercraft undertook the shop remodel works of Asda’s store at the Westwood Centre, Belfast for principal contractors H & J Martin.

The opening hours of the 24-hour Asda store were temporarily restricted to allow a night shift team to work in the store after closing time. Just prior to completion of each shift, a clean-up and protection operation was carried out to allow the store to re-open to the public each morning.

Re-cladding of the columns, service casings and sections of walls along with various items of specialised joinery were carried out by Mastercraft using new materials which were more in keeping with Asda’s modern store image. Staff facilities were upgraded as were the access and safety facilities to the warehouse area.

The Asda store returned to 24-hour opening on-time after a successful and accident free 5 week programme of works.

Asda, Larne

Working with principal contractor, Gilbert-Ash, Mastercraft successfully carried out the 10 week fast track fit-out of the 4,000m2 new build Asda store which opened in Larne in May 2010.

Mastercraft erected extensive areas of Eurobond “Firemaster” insulated and sealed wall panels up to 6.3m in height for compartmentation of the space and installed large areas of stud walling to form offices, canteen and toilet areas. Mastercraft undertook all the general and particular shop, offices and wash rooms fit-out works associated with a leading modern store.

Hygienic surfaced panels were installed by Mastercraft in all the food preparation areas in accordance with Asda’s stringent specification to promote health and welfare. All vulnerable doors were fitted with specialist protective sheeting to defend against the likelihood of trolley damage and thus promote longevity of use. Mastercraft also supplied and fitted specialist doors for the stores areas and the security areas.

Mastercraft shared with Asda, Gilbert-Ash and the rest of the team, in the promotion of the “Asda Way of Working” to encourage safe working practices for all operatives on site in Asda, Larne, and in fact Mastercraft recorded no accidents or incidents during the works.
