The Lyric Theatre has been an indispensable part of cultural life in Northern Ireland for over 40 years and when the decision was made to demolish the old building and replace it with a new modern equivalent, O Donnell & Tuomey were commissioned to carry out all aspects of design. Mastercraft were first choice to construct the concrete frame in this complex design due to our experience in this sector and we teamed up with Peri Ltd. to provide all the designs and drawings for the intricate formwork.

The main auditorium walls are 22 metres high and were constructed using Peri FB 180 Climbing Platforms and Trio panels. The fine finish concrete walls were formed with Trio Ppnels lined with MDO 333 plywood. Each of these walls required an individual elevation drawing showing bolt hole and panel patterns which had to be approved by the design team before any construction work could commence. All of the slab formwork was constructed with multiprops and GT24 timber girders. Also included in the frame package was a major temporary propping scheme, this was carried out using a Megashor system which remained in place during the entire construction period.

The logistics of the project were challenging due to the fact that the footprint of the building covers the entire site, therefore the careful planning and organistation of materials and plant going on and off the site was critical to the smooth running of the contract on a day to day basis.

The building itself has won numerous awards and both the Client and the Architect were delighted with the finished building and the quality of work produced by Mastercraft.

The Lyric Theatre was the Overall Winner at the Irish Concrete Awards 2011. For more information visit their website at: http://www.concrete.ie/awards.asp

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
